McBain's detailed research of the club's history will be featured,
including pictures from the council archives stretching back to
the early 1900's.
James Braid and Tommy
Armour hold significant places in the club's past and these
two giants of the game deserved pages of their own, each containing
a biography and Lothianburn-related trivia and information.
G.C. McILwrick
- joined in 1919 and remained a member until his death in
the mid 1970's. Club Champion five times, played in 32 Dispatch
Trophies, Bronze Medallist in the 1928 Scottish Amateur.
A.F. Simpson
- losing Finalist in the 1926 British Amateur. Capped for
Scotland in 1927 & '28. Club Champion five times, and
a member of the winning team in the 1927 Lothians Team Tournament.
Became Captain of Longniddry GC in 1936.
Bert Nicholson
- won the Boyd Quaich (British Universities Championship)
in 1967, and was Scottish Strokeplay Champion in 1972. In
that season he also won the Braid Panton Trophy (Order of
Merit title).
James McK. Brown
- won the Club Championship 4 years in a row thru 1956,
took the Stuart Cup as leading qualifier in the Lothians
Championship in 1964. Held the offices of Honorary Pesident,
Captain, Vice-Captain, Treasurer, elected an Honorary Member
in 1986.
N.J. Fisher
- four times Club Champion, a member of the winning 1987
Dispatch Trophy team, and the club's only winner of the
Lothians Championship, in 1976.
H.H. Brown
- second son of James McK. Brown, and a six-times Club Champion.
Twice a finalist in the Lothians Championship (1975 and
1991) and held the office of Captain during the club's centenary
year, 1993.
